The task of handling patients is ergonomically challenging, since it involves pushing, lifting, or lowering, which are often performed while adopting poor postures (e.g., excessive reaching, bending, or twisting). Previous epidemiology studies in industrialized nations have demonstrated that these ergonomic risk factors are associated with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among nurses and caregivers. The objective of this study was to describe MSDs among caregivers in several nursing homes in Bandung, Indonesia and, furthermore, to conceptually design relevant patient handling assistive technology. Standardized Nordic questionnaires were given to 14 caregivers, which is useful in determining the prevalence of MSDs in different regions of the body. In addition, a video camera was employed with the purpose of capturing common body postures adopted during handling tasks. Results of this study demonstrated that 71% of the respondents reported shoulder pain, while 79% of them reported lower back pain (LBP). While the number of respondents was fairly small, this finding indeed demonstrated that MSDs were a serious ergonomic issue. Based on the data obtained in this study, the use of a patient handling technology is highly recommended in homecare settings. The growth of world consumption of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) would cause a buildup of plastic waste in the environment. PET can be degraded enzymatically using the enzyme cutinase that has an esterase-like activity. Since PET particles cannot enter bacterial cells, a strategy to generate a whole cell biocatalyst would be preferable. This can be obtained by fusing LC Cutinase with Outer Membrane Protein A (OmpA) of the bacteria. The aim of this study was to clone the OmpA-LC Cutinase fusion gene and characterize the LC Cutinase activity in the cell fractions: supernatant and pellet of unsonicated cells and supernatant and pellet of sonicated cells. The highest activity was found in the “sonicated pellet” fraction, 1.717 U/mL. Enzyme activities were also detected in the “unsonicated pellet” and “sonicated supernatant” fractions. SDS-PAGE with activity staining shown the presence of positive yellow bands at 25-35 kDa in the “unsonicated pellet”, “sonicated supernatant and pellet” fractions. Thus, the LC Cutinase showed intracellular and surface activity. PET degradation was also confirmed by SEM analysis. Rate of abrasion and sedimentation in area of Java Northern Coast (Indramayu) relatively quickly has changed the pattern of land tenure in that region. The significant differences have been occurred in the region which is affected by abrasion and sedimentation. The using of high resolution satellite images with different periods of time helps knowing abrasion and accretion areas in Northern Coast Region West Java through high - resolution image interpretation in certain periods of time.
