TiO2 has been widely used as a photocatalyst, however, several disadvantages of TiO2 including low absorption of visible or solar radiation, rapid recombination of electron and hole as well as low stability limits its practical applications especially for wastewater treatment. Thus, to overcome this problem, this study aims to develop highly adsorbent photocatalyst using TiO2/SiO2 composites with sugarcane bagasse waste act as SiO2 source. The experimental results show that the photocatalytic performance of TiO2/SiO2 composite in the decolorization of methyl orange exhibits three-fold enhancement compared to neat TiO2. Characterization data (XRD, SEM, and XRF) show that a phase transformation was obtained from amorphous to crystalline phase by increasing TiO2 content. These results proved that the feasibility of SiO2 from sugarcane bagasse waste coupled with TiO2 can be utilized for wastewater degradation. With the increasing of renewable energy development in Indonesia, it is important to analyze and identify lessons learned from the implementation of renewable energy in rural area such as Sumba Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Participation and collaboration between all stakeholders coupled with paying attention to sustainability are the important aspects of developing renewable energy in East Sumba. Therefore, using Business Model Canvas (BMC), this study identifies and analyzes the four sustainable business models based on four categories of Operation and Maintanance (O&M) implemented in Sumba Island to generate electricity using renewable energy resources. The findings of this paper outlines every lessons learned and difficulties of each business model in Sumba Island, so that other rural areas can take a lesson from it and implement the business model that is most suitable based on the area’s local characteristics and resources. The number of smokers is high, with increasing number of young smokers. Current pharmacological measures to treat nicotine dependence is overshadowed by severe side effects and the emergence of dependence on the replacing agents in the case of replacement therapy. The present work aimed to seek alternative treatment mode to help quit smoking. Forty smokers, with various intensity of nicotine dependence, were enrolled in this open label study. They were required to take 15 ml VCO twice daily for 14 days. Evaluations were made before the experiments started and upon its completion, consisting of Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) and quality of life (QoL) determination. Results showed that consumption of VCO resulted in significant improvement of FTND (3.43±1.93 to 2.90±1.86, p<0.05) as well as EQ-VAS (86.00±14.55 to 91.85±11.89, p<0.01) scores. This study implies that VCO is beneficial to smokers who wish to reduce dependence on and finally quit smoking.
